Defining Core Values/ Ag Leagan Bunluachanna

“Companies that enjoy enduring success have core values and a core purpose that remain fixed while their business strategies and practices endlessly adapt to a changing world.”

Léígh mé an ráiteas thuas i bpáipéar ón Harvard Business Review darb ainm ‘Buiding your company’s vision’, le Collins agus Porras (1996). Ráiteas úsáideach domsa agus mé ag cur le chéile an plean agus an fís do ACLAÍ. Deirtear gur píosa luachmhar den gnó é na bunluachanna, gur annamh a athraíonn siad, agus do dtabharfaidh siad treor don gnó agus rudaí thart timpeall orainn ag athrú. Chomh maith le sin, tá mé ag siúl go dtargóidh na bunlauchanna cuitiméirí chugainn atá inchurtha linn féin agus le fís ACLAÍ. Mar sin, an tseachtain seo chaith mé roinn mhaith ama ag smaointeamh ar bunluachanna ACLAÍ. D’fhiosraigh mé bunluachanna na mór-chomhlachtaí, agus na mion-chomhlachtaí, le feicieáil cad é a bhí acu mar bhun luachanna. Seo cúpla sampla:

Walt Disney
  • ·      No cynicism
  • ·      Nurturing and promulgation of “wholesome
  • ·      American values”
  • ·      Creativity, dreams, and imagination
  • ·      Fanatical attention to consistency and detail
  • ·      Preservation and control of the Disney magic

Sony
  • ·      Elevation of the Japanese culture and
  • ·      national status
  • ·      Being a pioneer – not following others; doing
  • ·      the impossible
  • ·      Encouraging individual ability and creativity
Bhí formhór bunluachanna ACLAÍ agam i mo chloigeann le píosa, ach is rud eile iad a chur ar pháipéar. Mholfainn d’éinn atá ag toiseacht gnó na bunluachanna a dhaingniú ón tús ar fad. Go deimhin, ba chóir go mbeadh bunluachanna agat mar duine chomh maith! Pé scéal é, seo agaibh bunluachanna ACLAÍ!

ACLAÍ

  • ·      Daoine a spreagadh tríd obair chura, agus nuálaíocht.
  • ·      Clú láidir agus deimhneach a chothú go leanúnach.
  • ·      Sár-sheachadadh don client.
  • ·      Cultúr den dhátheangachas agus cultúr na nGael a chur chun cinn i gcónaí

Agus sin é! Cuirigí bhur mbariúil in iúil maidir leis na bunluachanna le nóta tráchta mas mian libh.

“Companies that enjoy enduring success have core values and a core purpose that remain fixed while their business strategies and practices endlessly adapt to a changing world.”

I read the above statement in a paper from the Harvard Business Review called ‘Building your company’s vision’, by Colling and Porras (1996). It’s a useful statement for me as establish the plan and vision for ACLAÍ. The core values are a vital piece of the jigsaw for a business, that seldom change, and will give the business direction as circumstances change around us. They will also attract customers who are compatible with us and ACLAÍ’s vision. That said, this week I spent a fair amount of time thinking about what the core values would be for ACLAÍ. I looked at the core values of big and small companies, to see what they had in place. Here are a couple of examples:

Walt Disney
  • ·      No cynicism
  • ·      Nurturing and promulgation of “wholesome
  • ·      American values”
  • ·      Creativity, dreams, and imagination
  • ·      Fanatical attention to consistency and detail
  • ·      Preservation and control of the Disney magic

Sony
  • ·  Elevation of the Japanese culture and
  • ·      national status
  • ·      Being a pioneer – not following others; doing
  • ·      the impossible
  • ·      Encouraging individual ability and creativity

  • Inspiring through hard work, and innovation
  • Constantly striving for a strong and positive reputation
  • Over-delivering to the client
  • Promoting a culture of bilingualism and Irish culture

I think I had most of ACLAÍ’s core values in my head for quite some time, but it’s a whole other thing to get them on paper. I would definitely advise anyone who is starting a business to get the core values nailed form the start. Indeed, you should have core values as a person as well! Anyway, here are ACLAÍ’s core values!

And that’s a wrap for today! Let me know what you think of the core values by leaving a comment.

PS here is the link for the paper.
