Bhí mé ag treanáil i luimneach inniú leis an dream tógáil meacháin. Rinne muid dhá seisiúin. Ar maidín rinne muid cumhacht glanadh, agus cumhacht snapadh. Sa dara seisiúin rinne muid glan agus rabadh iomlán, agus snapadh iomlán. Rinne mé glan agus rabadh 85kg, glanadh 95kg agus snapadh 70 (theip orm ag 73). Mholl Eamonn dom an chéad 10 lá eile a chatheamh ag meacháin níos éadroma le dul chun cinn níos mó a dhéanamh ar na teicníc. Tá orm an rabhadh sagam a athrú rud beag chomh maith. Thar a bheith sásta leis an lá treanála cibé.
Dóibh siúd a bhfuil suim acu, measaim féin (agus neart eile), go bhuil na tógáil oilimpeach thar a bheith úsáideach don iomáint ó thaobh cumhacht agus luas a ghiniúint. Deánfaidh mé plé níos doimhne ar na fátha do seo am éigean níos moille. Seachas seo, níl aon ionad ann do na scileanna a fhoghlaim mar is ceart agus a bheith in ann iad a dhéanamh faoi bhrú agus ag am am ceart. Rud a bhéas mé ag cleachtú amarach i gCorcaigh!
I trained in Limerickltoday wih the weightlifting crew. We did two sessions. In the morning we did power snatch and power cleans and power snatches, and the afternoon session consisted of full snatches and full clean and jerks. I got 85 in the c and j, 95 in the clean, and 70 in the snatch (failed at 73. Eamonn advised me to spent the next 10-12 days training at lighter weights to work on technique and avoid going to max. I also need to work on the jerk. Very happy with the days training.
For those that are interested, i (and many others) believe that the olympic lifts can be very useful for sports such as hurling in terms of delevoling power and speed. I will discuss this in more depth sometime soon. Having said that, there is no substitute for being able to perform the skills of hurling correctly, under pressure and at the right time. Something I will practice in Cork tomorrow!
