Thursdays team Session/ Seisiún Foirne an Déardaoin

'It was never my ambition to play the game for winning All-Irelands or breaking records, but to perfect the art as well as possible' (Christy Ring)

Tá cluiche againn amarach (an chéad cluiche ó thosaigh an bhlag seo!) mar sin bhí an treanáíl éadrom inniú. I rith an lae rinne mé 10 nóimead in éadan an balla ach bhí sé an-éadrom. Sa tráthnóna bhí an seisiún foirne gasta agus gearr. Cúpla drill agus cúpla sprint gearr. Tá cluiche againn amarach faoi shoilse. Mothaím go bhfuil mé ullmhaithe go maith. Agus mé ag léamh leabhair Christy Ring faoi láthair, tá sé ar intinn agam dul amach leis an trí adhaim a leanas:

1. Úsáid an cluiche mar seans na scileanna s'agam a thástáil. Ní bheidh mé i ngleic leis an fearr a bhéas mé ag marcáil ach ag foghlaim uaidh mo chuid láidreachtaí agus laigí. Beidh mé saor ó féin coincéipt, mar sin ma tharlaíonn menacóg ní chuirfish sé isteach orm. Níl ann ach nod gur chóir dom an scill a athrú beagán don chéad iarracht eile.

2. Ionsaí ar an sliotar gan aon aird ar chontúirt nó gan dabht nach bhfaighfidh mé é. Beidh mo shiúl ar an sliotar i gcónaí. Níl ann sna heachtraí eilel atá ag titim amach ach tesit dom le feiceáil an dtig liom an díriú intinne a choinneáil ar an sliotar.

2. Attack the sliotar with no sense of fear or danger. I will have my eyes on the sliotar at all times. What happens around me or the sliotar is simply a test for me to see if I can keep my concentration.

3. Cuirfidh mé solathar maith sliotair ar fáil do na himreoirí thart orm. Má tá fáil agam beidh mé in ann an scór a ghlacadh mé féin ach cruthóidh mé spás do na himreoirí thart orm.

Tá an bia roimh chluiche tábhachtach chomh maith. Ar na mallaibh bhí mé ag ithe rud beag barraíocht roimh treanáil. Tá an cluiche ag toiseacht ag a h8 mar sin beidh béile agam ag 5.30 le snaic éadrom idir sin agus an cluiche. Beidh mé ag déanamh cinte go bhfuil go leor leachtanna sa chóras i rith an lae.

'It was never my ambition to play the game for winning All-Irelands or breaking records, but to perfect the art as well as possible' (Christy Ring)

We have a game tomorrow (the first since the blog started!) so the training today was pretty light. During the day I did 10 minutes against the wall but it was very light. In the afternoon, we had a squad sessio that was short and fast. A couple of drills and a few short sprints. The game is under light tomorrow night. I feel i am prepared well. Taking some inspiration from the Christy Ring book I am reading I am going out with the following 3 goals for the game tomorrow:

1. Use the game as an opportunity to test my skills. I will not be in direct competition with the man I will be marking but I will use him to see my strengths and weaknesses. I will be free of any self concept therefore any mistakes that I make will not affect me. It will simply be an indication that I should change the skill slightly the next time I go to perform it.

2. I will provide good supply of ball to my teammates. If i get the opportunity I will take the score but will also make space for my teammates.

3. Attack the sliotar with no sense of fear or danger. I will have my eyes on the sliotar at all times. What happens around me or the sliotar is simply a test for me to see if I can keep my concentration.

Obviously pre game nutrition is very important. Recently I think i have been eating a bit too much too close to training. The game is at 8 so I will have a meal at 5.30 with a couple of light snacks between then and the game. I will ensure there are adequate fluids in the system throughout the course of the day.
